Hi I came across this website by accident but its so fascinating to know that there are other Boals out there. I don't know if it is of any interest or will help anyone but my family are from Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland and we are still living there!!

Ballymena, County Antrim, is where the Boals of Boalsburg originated. If you can provide Boal genealogy from there, ideally back to the 18th century, perhaps we can link up the American and the Irish branches of the family!

Yes it is an iteresting site. I just stumbled across it myself. My father, Robert Boal came from Belfast. His parents were John Boal and Ellen Jane nee Fullerton. But I heard the Boals came from Newtonards (not sure of spelling but thats what it sounds like. My Father was an only son with four sisters so he took the name with him to America as far as my relatives go. My sister knows more about this stuff as she maintains more contact with family back in Ireland. I'll point her to this site. My kids are completely impressed that there is a Boal mansion and a town of Boalsburg. They thought they were the only Boals in the country except their cousins in Michigan. And I have never met a Boal who wasn't a direct blood relative. We'll have to come visit some day. Are there a large number of people in the town still with the name Boal?
Regards
Brian Boal

Brian, there are actually very few in Boalsburg with the name Boal. Pierre Boal, the sixth generation at the Boal Mansion, had two daughters. I am the son of his eldest daughter, Mathilde (Mimi) Boal Lee. I'm interested in hearing more of what you have about the Boal origins.

I too happened upon this site by accident, I was actually looking up something else, and came accross "Boalsburg". As a young kid, my family went there, but I was too young to really appreciate it. Now, older with my own family, I am thinking of taking my own road trip to see where it all started. I currently live just north of Buffalo, my father was Paul, and his father was Howard, who was one of twelve children. Do I have relatives in the "Burg"?

Hi, I'm a Boal (by marriage) living in Scotland. My husband's family are from Edinburgh and before that Ireland of course. Where is Boalsburg?
Chris Lee posted 2/13/07 8:34 PM     Click here to send email to Chris Lee
Hi, Rachel. Boalsburg is in central Pennsylvania USA, near the town of State College, home of the Pennsylvania State University (Penn State). It was settled by the Ulster Irish in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Where did you live in Ireland? Do you have family still there. The first Boal in Boalsburg was from Ballymena, County Antrim.

I am a Boal by birth. The farthest I have gone back is James Boal from Newtownwards, Ireland (1830's or 40s). His son Robert settled in Storrington, Ontario; and his son settled in Michigan.
So there are more Boal's in Southern Michigan!

My Great Grandfather, Henry Boal,(1831-1897) was a Cooper (Barrel Maker), arrived and naturalized in Philadelphia, PA in 1855. He married a Mary Ann Barclay (1836-1911). She was born in Northern Ireland. They are both buried in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Philadelphia, PA. I still can not find their ancestors. Their daughter married a Patton.

Hello Diane Scott - my gggg grandfather William Boal was born in Newtownards in 1820, his son Francis Boal was born in 1848 in Ireland - the family came to England and i have found them in the 1881 census - it may be possible that you James Boal is related to William in some way.

I have just returned from Craigs, County Antrim, Ireland where my ancestors lived, and found a couple of Boal cousins. My grandmother, Elizabeth Jane Boal married William McCloy (also came from the same area) and had four children including my dad William. I believe they came to Canada around the 1930's. Please contact me as I have quite abit of Boal family information.

Hi,
I'm a bit late joining this, but have just found this today whilst researching my family tree.
My ggggg grandfather was David BOAL (born 1764), his son George BOAL was my gggg grandfather, George's son Robert Hamilton BOAL was my ggg grandfather. I always thought they were all born in Ireland.
Robert Hamilton BOAL's son Samuel BOAL and Samuel's decedents (including me!) were born in the north east of England.
Would love to hear from anyone related to these Boal's!
