Author Topic:   Catfish techniques?

Over the past month or so I've taken my boat out almost every night and I've had incredible luck catching large bluegill and crappie with a very simple lightweight rig and red worms. On a good day I typically bring in around 10 fairly large bluegill/crappie per evening (not including the really tiny suckers I end up catching) between 4pm-9pm. That's not bad at all, but I want to expand the type of fishing I do to some larger game.
Anyone know a good setup for catfish this time of year? Locations? Bait? Depth? Time of day?
I'm still an amateur fisherman so I'm not sure how to land the larger fish in this lake, so any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Greg

Greg, in order to catch the really big cats in this lake you need to learn how to call them into your bait. Get you an empty 2 liter bottle and cut the bottom off to make a funnel. Remove the cap and place the bottle to your lips. Close you left eye and in a loud squealing voice hollar "hootie hoo, hootie hoo" as loud as you can thru the 2 liter funnel. Repeat this at 6-8 minute intervals and within the hour every large cat in the lake will migrate toward your location. Good luck.

Bill, Do you have any bass calls? Try fishing for cats on the left hand bank in pond hollow (about half way down). Live bluegill (small) should do the trick for a monster!!
