i was noticing that when i bought some flies from the shop the other day that they all had micro thread heads and material wrapped right up to the eye. i think they were umpqua or frontier flies. are there any special tricks i can use to accomplish this look especially on my small dries. thanks in advance.

Hi Jeff...for me.. small heads came as a result of always wanting to get one more wrap of hackle. I don't know of any "tricks" but, here's how I do it. First...on anything smaller than a 16 I use Bennichi 12/0 thread. Smaller thread equals smaller head.
Second...after wrapping the hackle to the eye.....point the tip away from you on top of the hook...make 2 wraps tight to the eye and so the stem is on the far side of the hook.
Third...hold the bobbin in your off hand with tension (very important) while you slide your scissors from underneath and cut the stem as short as possible. Use fine tip scissors.
Last.....make a few more wraps covering the stem end whip finish
Constant tension through the process is very important! Hope this helps..Jason
