Amsterdam hopes for a World record - PREVIEW
Thursday 13 October 2005
Amsterdam, The Netherlands - The organisers of the 30th edition of the ING Amsterdam Marathon which takes place this Sunday (16), are hoping Haile Gebrselassie will do the same at the marathon distance, as he did over 10 Miles on 4 September at Tilburg: run the fastest ever time by a human.
On 4 September the Ethiopian distance running master ran the fastest ever clocking for 10 Miles (44:24). The race in the southern Dutch city was run in preparation for an even greater the task the ever smiling Ethiopian has set: bettering his personal best on the marathon. Three years ago in London, Gebrselassie ran his first serious marathon clocking 2:06:35.
Gebrselassie wants to run faster than that time and hopes to better the World record of 2:04:55 set by Paul Tergat of Kenya two years ago in Berlin. Even if he ‘only’ betters his personal best the Ethiopian will still be the fastest marathoner of the year 2005 so far. The barrier of 2:07:00 has yet to be taken this year. Felix Limo of Kenya clocked the fastest last Sunday in the Chicago Marathon with 2:07:02.

'Gebrselassie is cautiously optimistic about World record bid in Amsterdam'
The course in the Dutch capital has proved to be very fast in recent years. In 2003 William Kipsang of Kenya clocked a winning time and course record of 2:06:39. Last year another Kenyan runner, Robert Cheboror, was even faster with 2:06:23.
Gebrselassie lines up with his running vest/bib different from the other elite runners: while everyone else will have a number, the peerless former two-time Olympic and four-time World 10,000m champion will be set apart visually as well, wearing a special number bib with just his first name “HAILE”.
Renate Paradowska of Poland will be the fastest in the women’s field with a personal best of 2:27:17.
The weather forecast for Sunday is good: sunny, a temperature around 14/15 degrees and a wind of 4 m/sec.

Yeha !!! Gebre beat Eritrean Chiken head ! here is the News ...
Gebrselassie over Tadesse in Njimegen 15km
Sunday 20 November 2005
Nijmegen, The Netherlands - Once again the Ethiopian running icon his decisive move in the ninth kilometre, Haile Gebrselassie easily won the 22nd Zevenheuvelenloop 15km in this eastern Dutch city.
Gebrselassie considers The Netherlands as his second home. After all, the roads of Holland are good to him. For the third time in just two and a half months, the Ethiopian clocked a yearly world best on Dutch roads; this time, it was over 15 kilometres. Running in relatively cool conditions - 6 C. at race time - but with nearly no wind, there was from the beginning just three leaders in the race: Gebreselassie, Eritrean Zersenay Tadesse, and another Ethiopian youngister Tessema Abshiro. who trains with Gebreselassie, letter a 19 year old ethiopian dropped off the pace just four kilometres into the race, leaving it a two-man battle. Tadesse and Gebre Running nearly side-by side or front and back. Then the legendery Ethiopian sudenly broke away with leading the entire way, the pair passed five kilometres in a rather slow 14:18, and 28:22 at 10 kilometres. At that point Gebrselassie pressed the pace and Tadesse was clearly in trouble. probably brought on by the low temperatures.
Gebreselassie went on to build by 24 second victory, well ahead of Tadesse's 42:17. Finishing third was Kenyan Bernard Kipyego (43:26), ahead of Ethiopian teenager Abshiro (43:40), who was fourth.
The Ethiopian legend, who ran a World best for 10 miles - 44:24 - on 4 September in Tilburg, and the fastest marathon of 2005 - 2:06:20 - at the ING Amsterdam Marathon on 16 October, was all smiles as usual afterwards.
Sharing his enthusiasm for longer races, Gebreselassie said, "I would have preferred a half marathon or a marathon, but they are not on the calender in this part of the year. I had no problems recovering after the Amsterdam marathon. I believe in active rest. So I trained well after Amsterdam."
Completing an Ethiopian sweep, Berhane Adere won the women's race comfortably in 47:48, the second fastest time of the year after the 47:45 en route performances by Kenyans Susan Chepkemei and Isabella Ochichi at the 18 September Dam tot Dam 10 mile race at Zaandam, also in The Netherlands. Kenyan Rose Cheruiyot was second in 47:48, with Ethiopian Mestawat Tufa third, in 49:00. In all, 21,350 runners started the race.

What the hell are u guys doing? This is an Eritrean soccer forum and it doesn't people who insult Eritreans, and support another country. Especially ingnorant fools. Long Live Eritrea. Eritrea is blessed with immensely talented athletes and scholars, and if those dumb Ethiopians could stop attacking us we could make long strides.

Ur funny Eritrean Hero but u do have a point. That this is a soccer webpage and that if Ethiopia's left eritean then eritrea would be able 2 run just as better as Halie. But he is still a cool runner though. Eritrea is a beautiful country and I'm proud 2 be eritrean. Go go Eritrea.
