I have a friend at the Wynn Unit in Huntsville who recently had testicular hernia surgery after being denied for 3 years. His doctor told him he would be in in the morning to give him proper dressing instructions for his wound. The prison picked him back up that evening instead so he was not there for the doctor to see the next morning. The officials from the prison didnt give him any orders from his doctor, if they even got them and since he didnt know he was leaving that night, he didnt get any either, leaving him to guess as to how to properly take care of his wounds. Upon showering that night and attempting to redress the incision, he was removing tape that he thought was covering bandage and gauze, but that was not the case. The tape was covering bandage and a drain tube and when he pulled it lose it pulled the drain tube lose resulting in a tremendous amt. of pain and causing the drain tube not to drain properly, backing up inside of his body. He requsted to go to the dr. and they took him to another unit to see one, they said it was draining properly so they removed it, leaving it absolutely nowhere to drain whatsoever, so now it is completely backing up inside of him, causing much swelling and more pain, not to mention the increased chance for infection to set up within his body. He has lost 12 pounds with one less than 2 weeks. he requested medical attention once more upon that appt. he was told"yep, looks real bad, dont know what to tell ya though" and was sent back to his cell to suffer more. This is rediculous treatment and I find it offensive that our inmates are treated less effectively than the law allows our animals to be treated on the outside. Animal cruelty gets more effective attention than our inmates whom we will one day live next door to upon their release. If anyone can lead me to the proper authorities to try and get some attention on this matter, I would be greatly appreciated. This inmates name is Billy Pirtle # 579363 at the wynn unit in huntsville, 77349 should you want to write him.

I can relate to this horror story. I was incarcerated from 1999 to 2003, and I experienced and witnessed medical neglect many times. I believe the only way to get true prison reform is to vote the Republicans out of office and revamp our prison system. these people are corrupt, corrupt, corrupt! Correctional Officers are smuggling contraband into prison, and some are violent gang members. Something has to be done!

Barbara, please send this information to the Lt. Governor Dewhurst. He is the chair person for the Judicial Committee. Sorry I did not see your post earlier. If you will look on the website under HELP there is a list of several people that should receive this report. Please have the Inmate to send you the Step 1 & 2 he has filed for additional medical care. They do this all the time to the inmates that have surgery even to the point of putting them back out on the hoe squad while they still have stitches in them. Flo, PAPA
