Dear Folks ! I am a Comic Book Collector ( with a collection of approx. 6.500 Comic Books and of course a Comic Art Fan from Germany. Since a couple of years - I do wonder what happened to "Marvels" Conan the Barbarian Artist Ernie Chan - who had been along with John Buscema or John Romita SR. and some others to me One of the twelve greatest Comic Book Artists Marvel ever had had , but in the middle of the 90's Ernie Chan vanished totally abruptely to me from the Comic Art Scene - since that time I wonder what happened to him ? Who knows maybe quite exactly what happened to this Artist -- did he passed away - as I may sorrowful presume - and if yes - what was the reason/cause for his death ? - suicide ? - drugs ? - a traffic accident ? -cancer ? - aids or even murder etc. ?? It would be nice to get a reply from someone who knows what really happened to this in my opinion magnificiant Comic/Pencil Artist. |

I did a quick search on Ernie and found a site. He did in fact pass away in '98 from cancer. http://members.rogers.com/fesquilon/ernie/ernie.html In Memory |

That's someone named "Ernie Chan Jazul," who was born in 1968. Not the Ernie Chan of comics fame, who was born in 1940. |

Ernie Chan worked as an artist for Sierra OnLine during the nineties, before Sierra got sold. I worked with him on Conquests of Long Bow: The Adventures of Robin Hood, one of Sierra's titles. One day he decided to sell all of his drawings (most from Conan, to raise funds to move to the Phillipines. I bought one of his marvelous drawings (which was stolen later). He left Sierra and I never heard back from him again. My guess is he did make it to Phillipines and he might still be there. He is indeed one hell of an artist, and a beautiful and humble person too. http://arturosinclair.com |

Ernie Chan is alive and kicking in California. How do I know this? He and Alex Nino, and Tony DeZuniga were guest' of our FallCon in Minnesota this last October with their wives. He ( as-well-as Alex, and Tony ) are three of the most down to earth people I have ever met. Very personable people. They will be attending our next FallCon in October. I invite all who wish to meet them to attend. Bennett Pisek ( Art-Director for MCBA Micro-Con & FallCon ) |
