Vaya con dios Marco. Never will forget seeing you 'sprint' to the top of alpe d'huez in when I stould on the mountainside. My condolences for everyone hurted by thid loss.... |

The most inspiring cyclist in the last 15 years is dead... a very sad day for all cycle-fans. He died to young and to lonely, to little recognised. |

I'm not ashamed to admit I cried when I read about the death of Marco Pantani. The passion and excitement he felt for the sport was very eloquently displayed. He had the heart of a lion and the soul of a poet. Cycling has truly lost a great man. His skills, courage and panache stole my heart forever. His demise broke my heart. With his death my heart cries. Me and my De Rosa are inconsolable. Selamat tinggal Sang Lanun. |

Even the mountains were smaller near him! And even the mountains are crying now cause they will never see their greatest conquer any more! Marco, we will always remember you as the greatest cyclist ever, and nothing and no one can change this. You are always in our hearts. I hope you don't feel so lonely any more, hope you are happy and free now. We miss you Marco, we love you the Pirata. RIP. Condolences to family and friends. Condolences to all fans of Marco. Marco you were the best climber i have seen in my time of cycling. In my eyes better than Lucien van Impe. You were also the most interesting character of cycling in recent years. All positives. You have given me and the rest of the world fond memories. You are remembered by people who never heard of Marco Pantani but if some one mentioned "the PIRATE" everyone would say, Yeah i know the PIRATE!!!!!!!!! You always won the race to the top, but this time you have reached the top without us knowing and wondering why did he leave us behind so quickly. Recuerdo el primer dia que lo escuche como ciclista.Fui en un giro de hace unos 9 años, el pirata tenia todavia pelo y una gran calva, tanta que cualquiera le echaria sus 35.Pero marco era joven, ver ciertas cosas en un ciclista nos levata a los demas y decir de vez en cuando "pues este puede ser alguien".Aquel dia saco unos 15 minutos a todo el pelotón en una escapa con alguno más, de estas que se pueden decir heroicas, pero que no se escuchan nunca mas.Pero este muchacho lo volvio a repetir otras dos veces en la carrera y se colo casi sin querer entre klos mejores de la general de ese año. Por entonces, los españoles veiamos tambien el giro esperando nuevas azañas de nuestro Miguel. Marco demostro en poco tiempo que no solo se escapa sino que subia con más rapidez y soltura que nadie, aunque no siempre en el mejor momento.Era un ciclista de corazón, de los que quedaban pocos.Lo hacia porque le salia del alma.Y él tenía fuerzas, tenía bastante.ESas dos cosas juntas hacen a un campeón , aunque no gane 5 tours.Y como todos los que tiene corazón y son valientes, sufren más y sienten el peso de la injusticia incomprendida de ver que han hecho mal, cuando lo unico que hace un ciclista es sufrir ya , sufrir pero siendo feliz, esa extraña mezcla que es correr como ciclista, que no ,e quiten esa pequeña felicidad de la meta. Nadie podra acabar con Marco Pantani, porque el era un buen ciclista y digno de admirar. Mis condolencias ala familia y a todo el ciclismo italiano. gracias por engrandecer este deporte, Marco. Hasta siempre. |

OMG...I still am in disbelief that Marco is gone. He is truely one of the most charasmatic figures the sport of cycling (as well as any other) has witnessed. The energy and style he displayed was and still is a positive influence on my current progress of the sport. My sincere respects to the family, your loss is greatly felt as if he was part of my own.
