Dear Pamela, Upon searching the net for information relating to ethnic costumes, I stumbled across your site and what a wonderful discovery! I read it like holding a book in my hands, fascinated by the photos and the fabric of our lives...I would like to thank you for researching and providing much knowledge in this area. I am from Vietnam and left the country when I was 13. After 26 years abroad, I am planning a trip back to VN, and I am most interested visiting the highlands and learn about their textiles and crafts. Again, thank you for the wonderful documentory. Brigitte Le Please advise on galleries in VN that deal with costumes and textile related. Thank you __________________________________________________ |

Brigitte - thank you very much for your kind words about my site. I very much want to share and offer the sort of site that I would like to come across myself. Costume/textile museums in Vietnam. Since I visited I have heard that a new Ehtnology Museum in Hanoi has opened with a good exhibit. http://www.kit.nl/objectid/html/ethnology_museum.asp Address: Vietnam Museum of Ethnology Nguyen v.Huyen Road 191/20/10 Nghia Do, Can Ciay Hanoi, Vietnam Tel. 84 48 360 350 Fax.84 48 360 351 In 1995 I visited the Son La museum which includes a display of minority costume which was reasonably well displayed in glass cases. (Son La, Son La Province - en-route from Hanoi to Dien Bien Phu.) Thai Nguyen (North, north west of Hanoi) reputedly has (or had in 1995) a museum there with a good collection of minority costume – I met an American woman who had visited it and was very positive about it. Unfortunately I was scheduled to go there but was unable to do so. I am afraid that I do not know of any others - but would very grateful for information on any which you find to be worth sharing. Enjoy your visit. I very much want to go back myself. good luck, Pamela http://www.pacross.net mainly tribal textiles and techniques |
