Do look at http://www.archives.ecs.soton.ac.uk/miao/songs/index.html for a fascinating archive of material on a group of Miao who call themselves A-hmao and known by their costume as, Flowery Miao - possibly Big Flower Miao - and, by the Chinese, North East Yunnan Miao. The songs cover much of the cultural history of this Miao group and the material has been compiled by Kenneth Parsons, a missionary born in China in 1916 to missionary parents who went there in 1903/05. In the M200 songs there are references to the costume. http://www.pacross.net mainly tribal textiles and techniques |
