Please let me take the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Kara. I am a 30 year old elementary school teacher from Texas. I have been married to my husband and very best friend, Todd, for the past 6 years. Todd is 33 and works in sales. We are the proud parents of a two year old adopted son named Slade Everett who has brought ultimate joy to our lives. His first mom was a friend, of a friend, of a friend of ours and he is our COMPLETE and total MIRACLE! Three weeks to the day that we found out we were not going to be able to conceive children other than by invetro, we found out about Slade's first mom.( I am infertile due to extensive chemotherapy treatments at the age of 17.) Todd and I had been praying for quite some time (through MANY tests and fertility drugs) to be parents. It wasn't important to either of us HOW we got that way! Slade's first mom and dad were unable to provide for him due to financial reasons and felt that Todd and I were the family to raise him. We talked several times over the phone... us in Texas, they in Illinois. 3 months later we traveled to Illinois to get our preemie, 5 lb 5 oz, baby boy. We were there for two weeks because Slade was in the hospital, but this too was a blessing. In those two weeks we really got to bond with Slades first family. We learned so much from them. Things that we will share with Slade as he becomes older. We were also able to meet his half sister and full brother. We keep in touch with all of them still today. That was just the beginning of many miracles. Many people wait a lifetime to adopt a child and God just quickly sent him our way. While we were down here wondering IF we would ever be parents, and totally consumed in our own pitty, Slade was already created and on his way to our arms. He was the answer to a bith families and adoptive families prayers. (Makes me feel kinda' bad... where was MY faith?...) I guess this is a good lesson to learn... No matter what your circomstance (sp?), the Lord will lead you in the right direction if you LET him! I'm not really sure how I even found this site, but after reading several posts, I felt that I needed to post this here... We are looking to adopt again soon. If you know of anyone looking to place their child up for adoption, please keep us in mind... if you don't, please just keep our family in your thoughts and prayers!
