I am at my wits end. I just read a good book about this problem and it suggests medication. At this moment I go from either having major anxiety or then some days major depression. I want to try to do the natural route but it doesn't seem like an option at this moment. I hate the thought of taking medication. I took ssri's and they made me fat. My doctor is reccomending cardizem and or carvedilol. I thought the magnesium was helping but now I think my depressiv symptoms could have gotten worse? Any suggestions ? Please I am desperate. Thanks for any comments

I guess you haven't read my previous posts. I was like you, DESPERATE, and after many, many years of being dependent on medication, I found that doctors SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME YEARS AGO that giving up caffeine and sugar would have fixed me up just fine. If doctors tell you that coffee doesn't make any difference, they are wrong, wrong, wrong. Please give it a chance. It takes about 3 months, but I'm pretty sure you will notice a huge difference if you give up caffeine (first & foremost) and sugar (secondary). Best of luck!

My major problem was I would get horrible--I mean horrible anxiety attack--and that would lead to months of gut wrenching depression/anxiety. It was awful. After a doctor put me on beta blockers, that went away. For me, I think all of my MVP symptoms are related to heat (ambient temperature).

I really feel as though I could use a bit of help right now with my MVP/panic attacks. I can offer a bit of advice to those seeking relief and agreement with the comments I've read so far: Diet is definetly key as everyone is saying. Caffeine is a definite harbringer of my anxiety, and now I'm reading sugar is as well?? Makes sense. I've also found that salt is a biggie for me, makes my heart race, I really have to watch that one. I can say this, it isn't easy at the moment a panic/anxiety attack is coming on: but exercise will really help. It's a matter of getting your mind off your heart so that you can calm down and breathe properly. This seems hard at first, at least for me, because my breathing is the hardest thing to control when I'm having a panic attack and that's what makes my heart/chest feel really awful. Also, someone mentioned temperature is key to their anxiety: yes! yes! yes! It sounds nuts and feels kind of nuts at the time, but if you find yourself loosing control and having a full blown attack, try bending over and standing in front of an air conditioner or better yet, stick your head under an ice cold shower. Sounds crazy? Yep, and it feels pretty crazy too at the time, but it works. I found myself sitting out in the snow once, just to feel almost normal, it's better then the alternative, which is feeling like you're gonna give yourself a stroke.I need some help with this, I'm not depressed at all, but I've started getting symptoms again. I think it's stress related (not depression for me) and diet for me.What can I do? I found a medication that works, but it's very addictive, when I used to be on it years ago, I actually started giving myself an anxiety attack before I took the medicine - I guess it was my fix.I don't have insurance right now, so the doctor is not the option, I guess. What can I do? I actually started feeling normal again the past couple of years, but now I'm getting a few symptoms again. I don't feel overly stressed, what can I do??When I get a panic attack it's REALLY BAD. Can I control this naturally or should I be on a medication (xanax is the only medication that works for me, not antidepressants). Also, not sure I want to know this, but can I give myself a stroke from my anxiety attacks? Sometimes my arm hurts, goes numb when a horrible one is coming on.Do I have to live my whole life with these scary moments?Any advice would be helpful. Thanks and good luck to you all. :)

Hi Kat,I feel your fear. I feel like anything I have or do before an attack is subject to phobic attachment. I have found that belly breathing, not chest breathing blocks the feelings of anxiety. To answer your question about the stroke, NO!! you can't give yourself a stroke. My mother suffered from MVP symptoms and had an awful time during menopause. Later she developed Alzheimer's disease and all of her heart related symptoms went away. Even when she went to the doctor they always said she had a strong heart! She really had all of the symptoms discussed here but more than that she could not let the thoughts about them go. I try to when I am strong to let the symptoms happens (if they do) realize they won't kill me and always, always go away and try to live moment by moment. Not easy but with practice can be done. I woke up this morning to a squeezing sensation. It scared the mess out of me. It only lasted for a few seconds, and I feel fine now. I was on a beta blocker, but I weened myself off of it. My palps used to scare me to death. I feel I have them under control now. I think most of my palps were do to indigestion. I stopped eating most of the food that I loved due to I would be afraid of having palpation's later. I tried ever vitamin in the book to stop my palps, and nothing seemed to work. So once I figured out the palpation's would occur more frequent when I was gassy. I began taking a pro biotic, and within a few days I felt like a new man. No gassy feeling, and NO PALPATION'S. I was feeling gassy all this morning, so I think that could be the cause of my sudden squeeze attack. I had milk last night, and I don't digest milk well. So all my fellow MVP people. Try an pro biotic it really helped me. Garlic and fish tablets are good also.

To all that have posted here, try reading this website I attach. Your symptoms are not typical to MVP, but are expected from patients who have MVPS. There's a world of a difference and with the right medication, you can feel like you're living a whole new life. If you're worried about taking medication or just "don't like" taking it like how I felt, that is actually, believe it or not, a symptom of MVPS as well. A beta blocker can be a life saver with heart palpitaions and such, but if you have MVPS, you need more. And I promise, you'll wish you'd done it sooner!

Lauren. which beta blocker are you on and what dosage?? Also, how long till it kicked in? Does it help with adrenaline surges that cause palps too?

Have had the same issue all of my life and fund that Calcium magnesium in the whole food form as well as Kava Kava can help immeasurably. Good luck with finding your best natural way to transform your life.

Janet,I'm on a generic form of Zebeta. I don't remember how long it took but it wasn't like a Lexapro or anything. I'm almost positive it was within in the first day or so. When I'm off it for a while, the adrenaline surges and weird beats come right back. ZERO other symptoms. Hope it works for you!
