Kicking Off the 2007 4-H Year Our Club is Changing Each year our club changes. Like it or not, we are always experiencing new members and families, rules, deadlines, and rituals. Each new change often results in the need for another change. For example, last year our club tripled in size. This is something we were very happy about, yet not exactly prepared for. We had to make changes to accommodate more members and parents. As still fairly new advisors, we are still learning year after year, making changes along the way, hopefully making our club more desirable as well. At the first meeting of the 2007 4-H year, changes will be the main topic of our meeting. We will discuss the good and not-so-good of last year, to help us make this year even better! We NEED your comments and suggestions to make this club a success. Communication is Key The key to any relationship is communication. Over the years, we have found that there are several good ways to stay in contact with each member and family of our club. Phone calls would seem to be the most obvious choice, but we’ve ran into several problems with using this as our main source of communication time and time again. Families are very busy and are rarely home. Not everyone has an answering machine or caller ID. Both of these facts make calling everyone very time consuming and not always successful. We will still be using the phone, but we are going to enact a phone tree within the club. Email and contact through our website would be the easiest choice, but then again, not everyone has internet access and sometimes computers have a mind of their own. Emails are still welcome, and the current month’s newsletter will be posted on our website. Sending out newsletters through the mail seem to be the best bet when it comes to notifying families of upcoming events and meetings. When asked, everyone receives their newsletter and enjoys the amount of information that can be given all at once. This year you will be receiving your newsletter at the beginning of each month. Along with your newsletter, you will find an enclosed monthly calendar with important dates, times, and places already on it. For future reference, our meetings will usually be on the last Sunday of each month at 2pm, with our first meeting being on Sunday, January 28, 2007 at 2pm at Skip and Lyndsey’s house. In future issues of the Lambinator Times, you will be updated on what was discussed at the last meeting as well as what to expect at the next meeting. New Members Welcome We welcome new members with open arms. If you know of anyone who is interested in joining our club, please bring them with you to a 4-H meeting! The sooner we can enroll members, the sooner we can get all of that paperwork done and out of the way.
