In the last 4 months I have seen three dead badgers at the side of the road between the dyffryn arms pub and the entrance to bryncoch village. Your idea of reflectors at the side of road in the vicinity to dazzle badgers back into the verge when vehicles approach is clearly a bad idea and is not working... |

Hi Richard. For some reason your message wouldn't display in the Forum, so I copied it in a post of my own making above. In response to your comments the road area you describe is a black spot for badger deaths, and has been for many years. The neath port talbot badger group is not responsible for the reflective posts you mention, as we are very aware that they do not work. After trying to convince the local authority (neath port talbot) of this fact, with supporting evidence, they still went ahead and installed them - for PR really. All our attempts to get the authority to do something more positive to reduce the road deaths in that area, eg. badger underpass, has failed I'm afraid. The badger group on a matter of principle refused to assist the authority in the installation of the reflective posts, and in their subsequent PR-ing of the activity. So false is the local authority's commitment to protecting the local badger that we withdrew our participation from their local biodiversity framework - they seemed only interested in using our name. The highways authority is just as bad by the way - no luck there either. [This message has been edited on 05/05/2009] [This message has been edited on 05/05/2009] |
