I have a neightbor who moved here a couple years ago from Egypt to get away form the Taliban and their way of thinking. He has done what he can to be "one of us". He has a job, and I must admit he works harder that alot of people I know. But since 9/11 he has been haveing a hell of a time. people come into the store where he works and refer to him as "Bin Laden's Cousin" or other such "colorful" terms. His boss dowesn't back him up, using the same type of negative remarks. Because he is "bad for business" his hours have been cut, he gets the worst shifts and of late, anything that goes wrong has been pointed out to be his fault.
Two months ago he was one of their top employees. Now, he can't even get enough hours to make his rent. He is trying to find a new job, but again, even though all his ducks are in order, it's a difficult road for him.
C'mon America, this is not 1942, we're not going to round up all Arab-Americans and put them in a camp. We have taken in citizens from all over the world and let them be American citizens. Let's not kick them in the ass now. There is no room for prejudice in our country, especially now.
My neighbor wears the red white and blue proudly, he's hapy to be here. And he pulls his own weight. It's not like he sits on welfare, doing drugs and living off the rest of us. Think about it!
