I'm trying to find out the particulars of the activities of the 1st MD at the Battle of 1st Manassas. Any help would be great. Among other things I'm trying to find a casualtiy list for the 1st MD for this battle. Also I have some information to suggest that Company B did not participate in the regiment's charge against Howard's Brigade. Perhaps company B saw action instead on Henry Hill. Any thoughts?Thank You |

There is some confusion. This website deals with the 1st MD US which was somewhere near Sharpsburg MD that day. The unit you are talking about is the 1st MD CSA of Col Elzey's brigade of the Army of the Shenandoah. Interestingly, the 2 units fought each other on numerous occasions including Front Royal and Five Forks. I don't know much about that unit, but will take a look out of curiosity. OK, You want to get the books "The Maryland Line in the Confederate States" by Goldsborough and "1st Maryland Infantry, CSA, personal reminiscences of a Maryland Soldier" by Booth. Also, there is a reenacting unit, Co H of the CSA unit. They may be able to fill you in with other details your looking for. This unit is well documented for a Confederate unit, so the info is most likely out there. Tell me what you find. http://www.1stmaryland.com/index.html http://www.1stmaryland.com/index.html 1st MD CSA link |
