I am just starting to research my wife'ancestor, Martin Rimmey, who served in Company G of the 1st Regiment, Maryland Volunteer Infantry. I know that he was caprtured at Front Royal and after that served in the Ambulance Corps. I'm sure that many of you have great experience researching these things. I welcome any advice and help.Allan Mueller

I looked him up in the unit history. We don't have alot of info on him. Martin Rimmey mustered into US servive on May 27, 1861. Co G was from Cockeysville, Baltimore County (you might want to check the town & county records (birth, death, taxes, etc.)) He is not listed among the wounded at Front Royal or elsewhere. Therefore, one could assume he suffered from some disease while in captivity at Belle Island VA if he did not return to the unit. We have a member, Chris Frazier who researches at the National archives. He may be able to find a pension record. Email the unit as per the contact page and I will put you in touch with him. Another possible info source is the Mormom Church http://www.mdgenweb.org/fhc.htmI'm curious about the Ambulance Corps service. How did you find out about it?

Allan, I have two ancestors who were with Company H who were also captured at Front Royal. I'd like to know how you made out in your research. If you have not yet been to the National Archives, maybe I can help you get started.
