To whom it may concern:I hope I have found the correct website? My name is Albert Hagovsky and I believe I ran into several soldiers of the First Maryland this past weekend (9/6/03) in Great Falls, MD. They had a small camp set up along with a laundry/cooking station at the Visitors Center inside the park. If this is not this group, please ignore this e-mail. My wife and I talked with several of the soldiers for quite some time. They were very informative and a pleasure to talk with. They asked me if I was interested in joining up. I have just started to become interested in the Civil War within the past year. I have already read 4 books (including the Shaara father/son trilogy) and have fallen in love with the period. I think what started it all was a trip to Gettysburg, PA. I would love to join the 1st Maryland to experience and learn more about the Civil War and specifically the 1st Maryland's involvement. I could really get into this!!! What I'm looking for is some guidance concerning what I need specifically to become a part of the 1st Maryland. I know each group has certain requirements when it comes to uniform/accessories/weapon/shelter...etc. Plus there is the level of authenticity. I would be starting from scratch with little knowledge of what I need. I have already been on the web poking around sutler's web sites, pricing things and looking around, but I need information about the 1st Maryland specifically so I know what I'm getting into?Some info. about me. I am 31 years old and originally from NJ. My wife Amy and I live in Rockville, MD. I currently work as a legal assistant at a large DC law firm. My wife is the press secretary for United States Senator Barbara Mikulski (MD). So our ties to our new home (Maryland) are great. That's one reason I would like to join a group from MD. I have just recently become extremely interested in the War between the states. A trip to Gettysburg started what's become "an obsession" if you ask my wife. I cannot stop reading/trying to learn all I can about the war. Please get back to me about joining the First Maryland and being a part of Civil War Living History.
