My son is 14 years old and the system in our area also passed him to the 9th grade due to his age. He reads on a 1st grade level and has math skills to around the 3rd or 4th grade. I am pulling him out this year because they are more focused on training for getting a job than teaching him anything. His Dad and I own a auto body and glass shop and also a muffler shop. So three days a week during school hours a bus brings him here to be trained instead of teaching him academics. Daron, my son, is in an electric wheelchair and is what the doctors tell us a tripelegic. He has normal use of his left arm. He can help us get him transferred around with the use of a walker, but can not ambulate 25 yards. He has had many surgeries to release tendons and so forth. But I believe he can be taught something at least using the computer. He is very bright and remembers everything. His speech is just like yours and mine. If you were talking to him on the phone you would not know anything was wrong with him. He just had the Greens transfer surgery on his right arm to see if it will increase his use of it. We live rural area of Mississippi and it is not much offered here for children like him. In fact he his the only child in a wheelchair in this school system. He is also incontinent with his biles. The doctors say that will always be that way. I am also a RN so that does help in a lot of ways. We do PT and OT at home as much as possible. He was born 10 weeks premature due to my poor health. I was in labor for on and of for 3 months before he came. I had to have exploratory surgery due to an obstruction in January of 1988 and he was born April 19, 1988. He was due the end of June. He is precious and he is normal in his Dad and my eyes. So I need help in finding home school supplies for him. Thanks so much in advance. |

I have an 8yrs. old daughter. I have recently learned that my daughter is not getting the kind of care and therapy she needs in the school system. Since school started this year she has been in the er 5x and hospitalized 2. She has been losing weight. I am real concered about her. I don't know what to do. What should I do. |
