I will visit Wales for the first time in July/August of 2009. I would like to have input from anyone from Wales or anyone who has visited Wales. I am interested in walking tours (say 5 miles a day), historical places, the south valley, mining areas (my great-grandfather was from Ebbw Vale), cool pubs and little known places like Hay-on-Wye for it's used book stores, etc. I am conducting research on Wales and life in Wales in the mid-to-late 19th century. What books, besides, Peter's of course, should I read? Hi, Peter, it's Lois Sanderson's daughter in NM.

There's not much in the valley regarding mining left, as much has been "regenerated", but Rhondda heritage park and Big pit in Blaenavon are a must. If you are in North Wales, don't forget the slate miners, a marvelous two trip quarry....http://www.llechwedd-slate-caverns.co.uk/... Well worth a visit. Enjoy Cymru
