I have been researching my Father's family, the Floyd's, and have reached a dead end with Edward Floyd born 1613 in Henrico Virginia. I believe his family came from Wales but I can't find out how his father got here. If anyone out there can help me find this information it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Richard

There are many ships registries to check for the name to find out when he arrived in the US. Ancestry.com is a good source. I have a disk around here with ships records on it. I found my emigrant ancestor info on it. He came over in 1630 from Glastonbury. I will look for the disk this weekend and if I find it, I will look up your ancestor's name.

I found the disk. It is entitled "Family Tree Maker's Passenger and Immigration Lists 1500-1900" I found nearly 400 entries for Floyd & Floyde. 113 of the entries are for the 1600s. The earliest entry is for Simon Floyd. The entry says Simon landed in Nova Scotia between 1598-1867. It does not list the exact year. You have to go to their source "Nova Scotia Immigrants to 1867" by Leonard H. Smith, Jr. and Norma H. Smith. Genealogical Publishing Co.Inc. 1994 Simon could have come to america after landing in Nova Scotia. I have ancestors who did the opposite. They landed in America, then ended up in Canada. The next earliest entry is John 1620-1650. The source "Topographical Dictionary of 2885 English Emgrants to New England 1620-1650". But that is after the time period you are searching. I printed all of the Floyd entries (100 pgs) if you want them I can send them to you. There are a lot of Floyd's who went to Virginia listed, but not in the time period you are looking. I'm sorry I didn't find anything better.

Hi again, congrats on all your hard work in replying to Mr. Floyd (from the Welsh LLwyd, meaning grey). Peter
