It as been said, in the Vulgate, that Merlin met with Julius Caesar, and that before the Battle of Carohaise. And, of course, it as been said that it was Julius CASEAR, the conqueror of Gaul, died assassinated in Rome in 44 before Christ. You can find a picture coming from the Book of Ronan COGHLAND : The Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Arthur's Legend : http://marikavel.org/carohaise/coghlan-cesar-medaillon.jpg That is the origin of the myth of Merlin, able to travel in space and in time. The great problem is that it was a person, called JULIUS, who was ceasar in 474 afer Christ. "caesar", until Diocletian, was the title of the vice emperor. So : Julius Caesar was to read Julius THE caesar, and not Julius Caesar. That person, caesar for the Occident, was : Flavius Julius NEPOS, named caesar for Occident until 09 February 474, to 24 June 474, after what he became "augustus" = emperor himself. You can find the analysis at the page : http://marikavel.org/genese/genese-chapitre_ix.htm (link given active) The text is in french. Please keep mind that that was published under my name under copyright,in 1999. any question will be welcome. I also identified ADRIAN of Constantinople, and Pontius Antonius. That is not a joke !!!!!!! Jean-Claude EVEN Chercheur-Historien (historian searcher) Lannion. Brittany. http://marikavel.org/genese/genese-chapitre_ix.htm Engann Karaez / Bataille de Carohaise. |

Thank you for clarifying the Julius Caesars. For a moment there, I was wondering how long Merlin lived for goodness sake! I always learn something from your posts. Hazel |

Hi Claude, your note is a wee bit confusing. Just what particular myth regarding Merlin has collapsed.? We all take it for granted that there are many myths concerning such a wondrous (and fictional) character. |

Of course, Peter : the Merlin of the Legend is a mixture of two persons : one living when Arthur was youg (second part of V th century), and another living round 570. The first was a soldier, and that is the reason that he won battles for the King Arthur, The second was a poet (a bard), living long after the dead of King Arthur. They were mixted in the Legend, and that is the reason that we find Merlin or in Scotland, in Roman Britain (England, Wales, Cornwall), in Gaul (and Brittany). But that was not the same person ! So,if I say that that is a collapse, that is because the part of the Merlin-soldier is now explained, because of the discovery and explanation of the true Julius Caesar, and also ARIADNE, the Empress of Constantinople, named in tha Legend ADRIAN of Constantinople . (ADRIAN is a anagram for ARIADN-e) It was not necessary for Merlin to visit Julius Caesar, who was dead for more 500 years befor, for there was a Julius, caesar, living at his time. So,the myth of Merlin, crossing over the time, falls down ! That myth was not but a confusion, a wrong interpretation, not a myth !
