Are South Walians really like Lowland Scots in that they are not truly Celtic in origin? Anglophile |

There are others here who can give you far better and deeper answers but I think I can tell you this much. There are those of Celtic origins as well as of English origins. Peter will straighten me out but I would think a great many of these English are of Norman descent. Peter? Or, anybody? Hazel |

To be "Celtic" is not a question of blood, but a question of Culture. So, the south Welsh are like other peoples : mixted. ... exactly like you ! There is not peoples of pure races in west Europe. There is not but stupid men asking for such questions ! JC Even http://marikavel.org/accueil.htm History of the Britons during the celtic, roman, and midl-age times |

I suppose it is a question of how much these "southernlies" have been forced to absorb anglo centric culture. |

Couldn't agree more. particularly in the UK there is no such thing as a celt, Saxon etc etc. The United Kingdom is as it's name implies, a mixture of cultures and races. More so in the last century. So anyone claiming to be a Celt Saxon etc is kidding themselves. We seem to get on relatively OK as things are, long may that continue. |

I'm sorry Darren but I couldn't disagree more. I'm one of those South Walians and I've never considered myself to be "British", I'm Welsh first and last. |

I couldn't agree more cwtch(my mam asked this of me often when i was a bab, nicememories)i think darren misunderstood my interpretation of the word "forced", it was meant as a sarcasism.Anglisication is a plague for the welsh, for which we must be forever on the guard against. |

There are many Cetis remaining but in the l9th century , South Wales had about a million immigrants from Ireland (Celts?) and England. |

Thankfully, Malacara and Cwtch appear to be very much in a minority, otherwise Plaid Cymru would manage more than the half a dozen votes that they usually do. |

alas, many in S.W.Wales, heavily anglicized as it is (or perhaps heavily Irishized as it was), are a wee bit scared of the Welsh language and think that Plaid somehow will force it upon them. It may take yet another generation to turn their passionate, fervent Welshness into something more tangible and lasting than mere support of Wales rugby team and Swansea laver bread. |

Plaid is the only political party (indeed the only Welsh party to advocate independence, and that's what i agree with, Cymru will only see any real development or prosperity when we make decisions for ourselves. |
