What I think:
Jesus wanted to be baptized as a way to show us what to do. He was conscious of his role in the world, but if he considered himself to high above being baptized, then we who follow him would always question, why didn't He get baptized?
As for why people today get baptized...to start, it is a tradition. But more importantly, it is a symbol of our agreement with God that we want to be a changed (reborn) person. It is not necessary to be baptized, just like it is not necessary to go to church to worhship God. But if you truly believe in the power of God and want to do his will, then being baptized and spending some hours at church every week are just the beginning of your walk with God.
When you start to do things for God, it is good to be with others who are for God. That is why a church group is so important for the growth of a new Christian.
And just like having knowledge but not having the college degree, a company may agree you have the right knowledge, but without the degree, they are reluctant to hire you. As a Christian who was not baptized, you may face many challenges of being accepted by any church organization.
However, I know the process of being baptized is a spiritual one. When you feel the overwhelming urge to give your life to Christ, you will want to be baptized. In fact, many people are baptized several times in their life, because each time brings a newer understanding of how God wants to use them and they are excited and undergo another baptism as the understand more.
Note: These are my views and not the views of any of the Hmong Baptist churches.

the reason we do baptism is because Jesus commanded His disciples to go and make disciples and baptising them.
It is only two ordinance we Prostestant believed to be instituted by Jesus Himself. Baptism should be once for all only not do it as many time as you like or whenever you feel like it. It is an outward sign to unbelievers that you want to be numbered with the believers. It is a sign to the fellow believers that you are one wuth them. It is an outward sign of the Holy Spirit's inner working in you. If you claimed to be a believer but have not baptised then I question your faith.
