This Guatemala fishing report is for the two weeks ending July 30th 2007 and is prepared by The Great Sailfishing Company operating out of the new Pez Vela Marina. When the weather cooperates, we are continuing to see some excellent concentrations of billfish in the waters off the Pez Vela marina. Most days have been warm and calm, but we are in the official rainy season, and so it can also sometimes be a little unpredictable. We were pleased to welcome Sherri Larkin and her group recently – and they encountered both sets of conditions. The first day out fishing on the Joint Venture the seas were a solid 3-4 feet and the going was rough at times. Despite this, they persevered and were rewarded with 3 good size sailfish to the boat. Their second day out however was at the other extreme: calm seas and balmy temperatures….and the bite was HOT. They hooked into two Blue Marlin (one of which was specimen size for Guatemala at 600lbs+) as well as bringing some dorado home for the table. The Sailfish made an excellent showing for this time of the year, with 30+ raises and 15 to the boat for the day. So much for the low season ! Overall a great trip ……………”We had a great time, thank you so much……….it was absolutely amazing and exceeded our expectations………you guys did a fantastic job and your staff…………….were fantastic.” The fish are still here, and are still biting aggressively – it’s not to late to come down and enjoy the “Low Season” in Guatemala, home of the World’s Best Sailfishing.
