I have acquired to rather old oil paintings signed by John Bents..Both oils are 12x24 inches, housed in similar unique frames, 21x33 inches. The background appears to be housing that may be in Italy, France, Holland, or Spain, with what miight be snow covered mountains in the back. There is a walled canal in the foreground. One features a woman washing clothes, and the other has strange looking fishing boats. Both are painted on hardboard, which indicates they were paintedsomewhere in the 1900's. Have been unable to locate an artist by this name except for a recent message on your bulletin board. If anyone can supply any information, it would be appreciated. These are lovely oils in uinique frames. Thank you

John Bentz who was born in Columbus, OH but moved to the east coast, with his last listed address in Leonia, NJ. The books weren't clear on some of the information, but I think he died in 1950. He was both a painter and etcher, and pastoral scenes like this one were his forte. He was a pupil of Robert Blum, W. M. Chase, and Kenyon Cox.Ebay - LARGE PASTORAL LADSCAPE OIL PAINTING W FRAME JOHN BENTZ Item number: 3778184765 * Oil on Canvas, framed*Size: frame size: 32 1/2 in x 43 1/2 in (83 cm x 111 cm), Painting size: 24 in x 35 in (61 cm x 89 cm)* Very good condition, two small repairs on the back of the canvas as shown.

My husband just purchased a large oil painting at an antique show in Connecticut signed by a John Bentz. It is a scene of a yellowish home with a brown roof, yellow road with brook on the left side. There is an arched doorway, trees behind the house and a white horse and some people outside the house. Blue sky, fence, etc. We're trying to identify it. Does anyone have an other paintings or info by him? my email address is aftermid_night@yahoo.com
