april you know what?! MY MOM EVEN SAID MRS. MUIR WAS BIASED! ya... so for all you other people, this is what happened: Last year, my friend april and I wanted to be ‘punks’ so you know, we found out what ‘punks’ wore, the music they listened to, and what they acted like… and then we thought it was really stupid to be something we’re not because we don’t always go against authority and all this other stuff. We found out what a ‘real punk’ was… like, way back when there were PUNKS, not just people that wanted to be, or thought they were ‘punk’ and that info stuck with us. everyone still thinks we want to be ‘punk‘, or we’re trying to be ‘punks’ but if they knew anything about ‘being a punk’ they would know we’re not. whenever anyone thinks something is punk and it’s totally not, we get mad because they are so clueless. They just go by what they heard online or in a magazine or something. ok, I think that’s enough background info for ya… on with my story of my bad day. First of all, we are going to have like a spirit week next week with different dress-up days and whatever and one of them is class choice day. Our class’s first choice was the best (or at least half of us thought). It was going to be “clothes not made of fabric” so you’d wear like, duct tape or paper or tin foil… (on top of your clothes, we have a really strict dress code so I’m sure some things wouldn’t work). Anyways, then someone (I know exactly who, I’d just prefer not to get that far into it…) said we should do something where EVERYONE will do it… so we re-voted and it came up to be gothic/punk day. GRRRR… they asked if anyone wouldn’t dress up that day and only one kid said he wouldn’t. but see, me and april said we were going to but we’re gonna do the opposite. She’s gonna borrow an American Eagle shirt from her sister and I’m wearing the brightest, tightest clothes I have and we’re gonna be preppies! But that’s not where the horrible day stops… oh no… that’s hardly got to me compared to what happened after school… Ok, so I’m in the school play and it’s sposed to be funny with lots of puns and stuff and there’s different cliques because it’s like about a nerd liking a preppy cheerleader. Well, I’m a person that’s sposed to always be listening to music and in our script it says “dress like punk rock stars”. sure, the play has it written as 3 guys but there were too many girls trying out in the play so lots of the guy parts are played by girls. So, well, we decided since we had to dress like punks we would wear little plaid skirts, fishnet tights (maybe shirts too), boots, tank tops or like “punk” looking shirts… and dark makeup - stereotypical female punk clothes. We were all talking about what we were going to be wearing in the play and the ‘cheerleaders’ wanted to do the whole britney spears schoolgirl look - meaning plaid skirts *even though it specifically says “cheerleader outfits” in the script*. She didn’t exactly like the idea of the ‘punks’ and the ‘preps’ wearing “the same thing”. I told her it wasn’t the same because we’d be wearing black shirts and they have white. We want fishnet tights and they want socks. We’d wear boots and they’d have shoes… it’s totally different but she couldn’t see that. Then everyone else was pretty much yelling at us saying that we should dress like on Wayne’s World with a metallica shirt and ripped jeans. April and I were just like… that’s a different era… that’s grunge but none of them would know that. They were also saying “it’s just a play” yes, it is, but isn’t it supposed to be FUN?! I’m not having fun with people rejecting our ideas all the time and telling us exactly what we have to or can’t wear. She was also saying that since the characters are sposed to be guys, we should dress like guys and that all 3 of us ‘punks’ (ya, there’s another actor but I’d prefer to leave him out since that’s a whole nother reason why I’m mad) should look almost the same. The play is sposed to be funny but if we all looked the same that would just look BAD. Now I ask… how many of you think my friend april and I should just go ahead and wear our skirts and everything even though no one likes the idea? Or should we just quit because we are | this | close to freeing up our after school schedule. Or should we forget everything we believe in just to make some preppies and a bias teacher happy? Or maybe someone has a better idea… I’m pretty much open to anything… http://www.angelfire.com/nd/rockstar this one! [This message has been edited on 03/06/2003] |
